William John Waters - Baker (SPM1895,K1896 ). In his advertising (right), William Waters makes clear that his business is much broader than is suggested by Kelly's Directory. He runs a cafe, he is a hay and corn merchant and, by 1900, is renting out furnished apartments. Note that William advertises that his business also trades from an address in Victoria Street although there is no record of this. The explanation may be that his Market Place premises actually extend to the rear all the way through to Victoria Street, approximately where the Swan Garden Rooms will be built. This may be the location of William's furnished apartments.

(Note: A 1926 advert claims "established 83 years with present family" which implies that William Lincoln was related to the Waters.)

William John Waters - Baker (K1916). William dies in December this year when the cart he is driving collides with a motorbus in dense fog. He is 60. (Halesworth Journal, Dec 1916). His widow, Mrs M C Waters, takes over the running of the business.

Clifford Waters - Baker (K1933). Clifford (37) is the youngest son of William John.

1938
The shop is taken over by the Swan Hotel, next door and is eventually integrated into the hotel as the dining room.
